For Agatha, it's Meghan Shaughnessy's. These two women from vastly different backgrounds have one thing in common - a dangerous secret that could destroy everything they hold dear. Both will risk everything to hide the truth, but their worlds are about to collide in a shocking act that cannot be undone. Detective Inspector Vincent Ruiz is lucky to be alive.
A bullet in the leg, another through the hand, he is discovered clinging to a buoy in the River Thames, losing blood and consciousness fast. It takes six days for him to come out of his coma, and when he does, his nightmare is only just beginning. Because Vincent has no recollection of what happened, and nobody believes him. The Silent Patient is a shocking psychological thriller of a woman's act of violence against her husband - and of the man obsessed with uncovering her motive Famous artist Alicia Berenson shoots her husband in the head five times and then never speaks again.
Five years later, forensic psychotherapist Theo Faber must find a way to get Alicia to talk if he wants to treat her. Only then can he unravel the shocking events of that tragic night five years before Childhood sweethearts William and Mary have been married for 60 years.
William is a celebrated surgeon, Mary a devoted wife. Both have a strong sense of right and wrong. This is what their son, Joe O'Loughlin, has always believed. But when Joe is summoned to the hospital with news that his father has been brutally attacked, his world is turned upside down. Who is the strange woman crying at William's bedside, covered in his blood - a friend, a mistress, a fantasist or a killer?
But nothing on this island is quite as it seems, and only when these women come together can they discover the whole story about the men in their lives.

I close my eyes and feel my heart begin racing. Someone is coming. They're going to find me. A mother and her teenage daughter are found brutally murdered in a remote farmhouse, one defiled by multiple stab wounds and the other left lying like Sleeping Beauty waiting for her Prince. A naked woman is perched on the edge of Clifton Suspension Bridge weeping into a mobile phone.
Clinical psychologist Joseph O'Loughlin is only feet away, desperately trying to talk her down. She whispers, 'you don't understand,' and jumps.
Later, Joe has a visitor - the woman's teenage daughter, a runaway from boarding school. She refuses to believe that her mother would have jumped off the bridge - not only would she not commit suicide, she is terrified of heights. When Sienna Hegarty turns up at his family home one night, covered in blood and frozen in shock, psychologist Joe O'Loughlin finds himself drawn deep into her world, trying to unearth the dark secrets her mind has buried.
The blood covering Sienna was his. Marnie Logan often feels like she's being watched. Nothing she can quite put her finger on - a whisper of breath on the back of her neck, or a shadow in the corner of her eye - and now her life is frozen. Her husband Daniel has been missing for more than a year. Depressed and increasingly desperate, she seeks the help of clinical psychologist Joe O'Loughlin.
Joe is concerned by Marnie's reluctance to talk about the past, but then she discovers a book packed with pictures, interviews with friends, former teachers, old flames and workmates Daniel was preparing for her birthday. Police corruption, an investigation that ends in tragedy, and the mystery of a little girl's silence - three unconnected events that will prove to be linked by one small town. While Detective Cormac Reilly faces enemies at work and trouble in his personal life, Garda Peter Fisher is relocated out of Galway with the threat of prosecution hanging over his head.
But even that is not as terrible as having to work for his overbearing father, the local copper for the pretty seaside town of Roundstone. When a paragraph in an evening newspaper reveals a decades-old tragedy, most readers barely give it a glance. But for three strangers, it's impossible to ignore. For one woman it's a reminder of the worst thing that ever happened to her. For another it's the dangerous possibility that her darkest secret is about to be discovered.
And for a third, a journalist, it's the first clue in a hunt to uncover the truth. The Child's story will be told. So in late , when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.
Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life - until the unthinkable happens.

Six years ago, Evie Cormac was discovered, filthy and half starved, hiding in a secret room in the aftermath of a shocking crime. Now approaching adulthood, Evie is damaged and self-destructive and has never revealed her true identity. Forensic psychologist Cyrus Haven, a man haunted by his own past, is investigating the death of champion figure skater Jodie Sheehan. When Cyrus is called upon to assess Evie, she threatens to disrupt the case and destroy his ordered life.
Because Evie has a unique and dangerous gift - she knows when some is lying. And nobody is telling the truth. Great new characters and brilliant new narrator, I kept forgetting it was just the one reader, every character sounded completely different, best reading I've ever heard although I do love listening to Joe O'Loughlin read by Sean Barrett! You know you've loved a book when you miss the characters and can't wait to meet them again!
Such a fascinating, fast-paced novel, I raced through this! My only disappointment is that I have to wait to read the next book in the series!
Bring it on, please!! I can't believe that Micahel Robotham has been able to hook me in again, but it's true, he has. Cyrus Haven is my new crush. Buy and read you won't be disappointed. The door is wide open for a surrogate Joe O'Loughlin to enthrall us with his incredible thinking. Any serious reader would struggle to give this less than 5 stars. Nothing is perfect. This is as near as you get for enthralling reading.
Joe Jameson's narration is deserving of an Oscar. I was sad when I realised the end chapters were coming, as I know I will have to wait until the author releases another book. I have read or listened to every single book by this author and I have given 5 stars for every single one.
Highly recommend this book.
