It's not often that I am lost for words, but it was such a brilliant question, that I couldn't actually answer it. Try now for a second and see if you can do it. Read the question again and see if you answer it, straight off the bat.

I don't think I've ever been asked such a question that has made me think about myself quite so much. And I love it!

Because not only does it really make me question myself, it's also incredibly inspiring. I've made some real humdingers of mistakes in my life, but throughout all the dark, unpleasant times, I've always had a belief somewhere deep inside me, that I would be ok. She's a born fighter and will always come out the other side. I still take her words as one of the greatest compliments I've ever received. And today, am still amazed at how astute she was about my character.

I don't know where that fire comes from or came from, but make no mistake, I'm thankful to have it. Not just because it's got me out of more scrapes than you can imagine. But because it's also the fuel that motivates and spurs me on. I don't want to be ordinary. And I never have. Which is probably why I got myself in so many scrapes. So you see, when I was asked that question and found myself unable to answer it, it made me do lots of soul searching.

Because we truly can become any woman we wish to be. And we are shaping her right this very second. Embrace your faults and own them. Think about the influences you have in your life and be careful whom you spend time with.

But along the way, we can lose our voices and we can become scared to be ourselves. We start to experience some of life's hard knocks and we start to live life in survival mode. Katie Portman writes Pouting In Heels , an award winning parenting and lifestyle blog.

I couldn't answer the question at the time, because I needed some time. Because it's not about who I am right now, but about the woman I 'want to be'. Or to put it a little better, the woman I 'want to become'. We're all learning as we go, juggling priorities, making mistakes and figuring out what we can. We're all doing our best to get by and tackle whatever curve balls life lobs in our direction.

But what I love about this question, is the potential within it. When I was at college and misbehaving by skipping classes, my tutor once said to my Mum:. You might laugh, but I am on a mission to become a better woman.

It might even sound silly, but I want to be a woman who is great. I want to be a woman who is respected, loved and remembered. Through the thoughts we have, the actions we take, the friends we make and the work we do. We can become the kind of woman we look up to and admire. We can become the kind of woman that we find ourselves being envious of.

But we have to create her. We need a desire to change and a boldness to become her. Do the very things that you are petrified of. Learn to stand on your own two feet. Look at what hasn't worked for you in the past and figure out what will, moving forward. When we are children we have so many dreams. So many wishes we hope will come true. But you know, it's never to late to be that woman, you've always wanted to be.

It's never to late to become the very best version of you. And as for me? Did I ever figure out my answer to that question? Suggest a correction.

I Want To Be This Kind Of Woman

I like the idea of rebirth. I like spring. What burdens do I need to emerge from, butterfly-style? Who do I want to become?

Because I needed some time. Certainly not in recent years anyway.

As we observe women in the church today, we see the vast majority striving to meet perfection. Many women feel overwhelmed by the unrealistic expectations the world has placed on them, and which they have also placed on themselves. They have fallen prey to the mentality that they need to be the perfect wives, moms, great house makers, smarter, stronger, and successful and have it all together all the time. They have to look the part, even though inside they are struggling with brokenness and everyday challenges.

What Kind of Woman Do I Want To Be?

I had the privilege of working with 40 girls at the Women of the World Festival during two workshops this past weekend. The workshop, much like the festival itself, was aimed at celebrating why being a girl is cool — and empowering women of all ages. She has perfect hair. She has lots of friends. Everyone wants to be her. I said the women could be real or fictional, but almost every girl talked about women they knew. Mostly their moms, friends, and aunts.

What Kind of Woman Do You Want to Be?

I want to be the kind of woman Who makes eyes crinkle And lips part with truths that are heavy Grounded With the strength to lean on The guidance to lead And the grace to make it look easy. I want to be the kind of woman Who sees under first impressions The layers and quirks Who dives into a soul and swims in its murky waters To save drowning dreams and bring them back to the surface. I want to be the kind of woman With a chameleon spirit who blends into her environment And carries nothing but intuition in her purse for protection. I want to be the kind of woman Who embraces change like a lost soulmate, and welcomes risk with a kiss Because she knows how to heal the rash on her ass when life pulls out the carpet underneath.

It's not often that I am lost for words, but it was such a brilliant question, that I couldn't actually answer it.

I get lost in my thoughts way too often, and am constantly dreaming of a better alternative or life I should try to live, all while being snapped back to the harsh reality. My savings are either laughable or praisable depending on the month and right when things are going great for me they fall apart. I find myself constantly reminding myself that the hope I have for my future still lingers, and I have to continue to focus on who I want to be. This question is always at the back of my mind.

What Kind of Woman Are You? One of My Favorite Maya Angelou Quotes

I love quotes that are are assigned to unknown authors. We never know where they came from or the kind of person who wrote them. That said, I have always loved this quote and wondered what women in our community would think of it. For me, this quote communicates the need that most women have to bring significance to the world.

Over the past few months, I have adopted a mantra for myself: "What kind of woman do you want to be? This Friday is my 27th birthday. That fact, in and of itself, isn't that important. I'm not one of those girls who dreads -- or even pretend to dread -- turning a year older. I like celebrating my birthday, and I realize that 27 is still young.
